the Death of Death Note...

The film isn't actually in production right now. It has people attached to it, but there is no current production. Studios do this, buy up popular properties so that no one else can own the rights, then sit on the rights for years. Rarely does a film, especially one based on a foreign property actually get made. They may, one day, actually make the Death Note movie, American version, but I wouldn't worry about it. Besides which, a petition won't stop it from happening. Best thing to do is just ignore any news on the film, just like every other anime property that gets sold, because it's not going to be happening any time soon.
What doesn't kill you usually hurts really, really badly.
